This course introduces students to the fundamentals of automotive technology and the automotive industry while preparing them for future careers in the field. Students will gain an overview of the industry, the operating principles of automobiles, and the function of their basic components. Instruction includes general maintenance procedures, inspections, servicing, and basic troubleshooting. Students will also explore career paths and opportunities for further education through connections with industry mentors and field trips to local businesses.

Integrated throughout the curriculum are essential career preparation standards, including communications, interpersonal skills, problem solving, safety, and technology. As part of the program, students will also complete CareerSafe’s OSHA training, an OSHA-authorized online course that provides workplace safety instruction. Students may earn industry-recognized credentials such as the U.S. Department of Labor OSHA 10-Hour card, equipping them with hazard recognition, avoidance, and prevention skills relevelant to both construction and general industry.
