A teacher presents to an engaged classroom filled with attentive students, fostering a dynamic learning environment.

ESL

ESL classes are designed for adults who want to improve their English reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills. All classes are open entry/open exit. Instructors use a variety of instructional methods to accommodate all learning styles. Classes are designed to help students obtain a job, become more involved in children’s education, learn to communicate family health needs, become involved in community activities, and learn citizenship skills. We offer both morning and evening classes.

Citizenship
This class prepares foreign-born students for the citizenship test to become naturalized U.S. citizens. A brief summary of U.S. History and an explanation of the U.S. system of government are presented. Actual citizenship interview and testing is done by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services. Citizenship classes are only offered the third and fourth quarter at 1:00pm.

Registration Procedure for ESL:

The reading placement test will determine your class level. No one may enter after testing begins and no children are allowed in the testing room. You will be post-tested at the end of each quarter to determine advancement to the next class level. Fifteen credits of lower-level English can be transferred toward your high school English credits in the high school diploma program.

The English as a Second Language classes are accredited by WASC only; these classes do not qualify for Title IV financial assistance.
