Auto I
This introductory course provides students with a general overview of automotive technology and the automotive industry. The class is designed to help students explore the field and develop foundational knowledge rather than provide advanced career training. Students will learn basic automotive concepts, including the operating principles of automobiles, the function of major vehicle components, general maintenance procedures, inspections, servicing, and introductory troubleshooting techniques. The course also introduces students to potential automotive career pathways and further educational opportunities through industry guest speakers, mentors, and field trips to local businesses.
Integrated throughout the course are essential career readiness skills such as communication, interpersonal skills, problem solving, safety, and technology. Students will also complete CareerSafe’s OSHA training, an OSHA-authorized online workplace safety course. Participants may earn industry-recognized credentials, including the U.S. Department of Labor OSHA 10-Hour card, providing foundational knowledge in hazard recognition, avoidance, and prevention relevant to both construction and general industry.
